런던에서 태어나 브리스틀 대학교를 졸업했습니다. 어린이를 위한 노랫말을 작사하기도 했으며, 이 책에 그림을 그린 악셀 셰플러와 함께 많은 그림책을 만들었습니다. 쓴 책으로는 『숲속 괴물 그루팔로』, 『못생긴 친구를 소개합니다』, 『막대기 아빠』, 『꿈틀꿈틀 왕지렁이』, 『드래곤 조그』, 『나는야, 길 위의 악당』등이 있습니다. 2011년 영국 계관 아동문학가(Children’s Laureate)로 선정되었습니다.
